On the 13th of December 2017, Orange Sierra Leone, one of the leading mobile networks operator, organized a Christmas party for fifty (50) Ebola-orphans currently within SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone programme. The main aim of the Party according to the CEO Sekou Drame was to reassure the Children and SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone of their organizations continued support to these children as before.
Madam June-Rose, PRO Orange Sierra Leone limited, conducted a tour with the children to every department of the company. Orange Staff were overwhelmed with joy in seeing how beautiful, healthy and vibrant the children have grown into despite their past. They furthered advised the children to always be respectful and study hard to enable them become better individuals in the future.
Upon arrival at the Freetown Amusement Park, (formerly known as Victoria Park) the children were in a jubilant mood as they take turn trying the various toys in their reach, they were also supported and entertained by staff of the National Amusement Park.
Giving a brief statement, Madam June-Rose Johnson, said “the Christmas party is organized for the kids, especially to reassure SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone, that even with the change of our company from Airtel to Orange, we will continue to give our best support to the kids, to help them become prospective leaders in the society”.
Dr. Prince Cummings-National Director, SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone thanked Orange Sierra Leone for their continued support. He said “our doubts have now been cleared as to whether the company was going to continue supporting the children with the change of name, but through this singular act even the Children are rest assured that their support will keep coming”. He pleaded with other organizations/companies to rendered support towards children within the organisations care, stating that “there are over 700 Children within SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone Programme that needs support”.
Mr. Drame, CEO of Orange Sierra Leone thanked SOS Children’s Village for doing a spectacular job in taking care of the children and also re-assured the organization that Orange will continue supporting the children even with the change from Airtel to Orange network. He called on other organizations to do the same in supporting the children in the care of SOS, as he said “SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is doing a wonderful job in taking care of the children and ensuring they help them shape their future and for this reason other organizations needs to step in to give them further support”.
The event climaxed with Santa Claus distributing gift packs to the children after a long day of recreational activities. Beaming with extreme joy, the children expressed their gratitude to Orange Sierra Leone for remembering them and organizing a Christmas Party for them. They promised to do their very best in school and are looking forward to another Christmas party in 2018.
Orange Sierra Leone since the outbreak of the Ebola Epidemic in the country have been giving huge support to fifty (50) Ebola Orphans, who were integrated into SOS Children’s Villages Family Strengthening programme since 2015.
